4. Bronchitis (Kasroga i.e cough)

Bronchitis is an acute inflammation of the trachea and bronchi of the lungs which carry air to and from lungs, resulting in the accumulation and discharge of phlegm or sputum. Bronchitis may be either acute or chronic.

Acute bronchitis is very common also called a chest cold, usually improves within a week to 10 days without lasting effects although the cough may longer for weeks Chronic bronchitis, a more serious condition, is a constant irritation or inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, often due to smokig. Chronic bronchitis is one of the conditions included in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

 

Symptoms:
  • Cough
  • Irritation in the throat
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Breathlessness

Causes:

In Ayurveda bronchitis causes to impairment of the digestive process, where anyone or all digestive organs could be at fault. According to the theory of ayurveda, if digestive process is cured to normal then boronchits can also be cured to normal

Increased Kapha dosha block the respiratory channels so movement of the air gets interrupted, and phlegm accumulates in the lung tissue. In order to expel this phlegm, there is a natural reaction of coughing, which results in Bronchitis. This can be increased to many reasons like inhalation of smoke and dust, physical exertion, intake of foods and drinks.

In Ayurveda bronchitis calls known as Kasroga and it to be caused by poor digestion. Poor digestion and incomplete elimination of wastes lead to formation of ama (mucus) in the lungs. This creates a favorable ground for growth of infecting organisms in the bronchial area and lack of rejuvenative measures can deteriorate the body’s immune response to invading organisms in the bronchial area.

  • Take a steam treatment and Stay warm and drink hot herbal drinks.
  • Regular body massage with warm sesame oil in closed area and hot and cold towels over chest helps to reduce chest pain and loosen mucus helps to pacify Vata Dosha and softens the Kapha Dosha in the chest.
  • Cover your nose and ear when you are in cold, smoky and polluted atmosphere.
  • Avoid sour and cold thing.

Take  half-a-teaspoon of the liquorice root powder and add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder to a cup water and heat for 15 minutes. Filter it and drink twice everyday for a week
