4. Acne (Pimples)

Acne vulgaris is the obstruction and inflammation of hair follicles and their accompanying sebaceous gland) which resulted to papules, pustules, nodules or cysts. Pimples develops on the face, back, chest or breast etc. It is the most common problem of adult stage and is therefore known as Yauvanpidika in Ayurveda; yauvan means ‘adolescence’ and pidika means ‘pustules or papules’. 

Symptoms:
  • Whiteheads
  • Blackheads
  • Pain in pimples.
  • Pustules 

Causes:

According Ayurveda, the tridoshas (vata, pitta, kapha) in the form of tissues controls all activities of the body and aggravated doshas are main reasons in eruption of acne. Enhance in the Vat Dosha and phlegm Kapha Dosha causes distortion in rakt dhatu.

Vata when gets vitiated due to unhealthy diet and lifestyles affects other two doshas kapha and pitta to aggravate them. Aggravated pitta affects rakta dhatu or blood. The vitiated blood affects the skin and causes excess secretion of oil from sebaceous glands. 

Kapha has sticky property. Aggravated kapha imparts the stickiness to the oil produced by sebaceous glands of skin. Thus the thick sebaceous plugs are formed in skin pores and hair follicles leading to eruption of acne.

Pimples can also be aggravated by excessive intake of oily, spicy, salty and sour foods.

In modern view the most common causes of

1. Puberty, During this stage in androgen stimulate sebum production and hyper proliferation of    keratinocytes.

2. Hormonal changes that occur with pregnancy or the menstrual cycle

3. Occlusive cosmetics, cleansers, lotions, and clothing

4. High humidity and sweating

Ayurvedic Medicine for Fever, Diet & Lifestyle:
  • Avoid all type of milk sweets, Jaggery, alcohol ,incompatible foods, sour and spicy foods or food that are difficult to digest
  • Avoid taking cold bath immediately after exercise or when the body is hot and suppressing the urge to vomit ,irritant cosmetics.
  • Wash your mild herbal face wash/soap.
  • Do not squeeze the pimples.

Home Remedy:
  • Treatment done by based on severity, can involve a variety of topical and systemic agents directed at reducing sebum production.
  • Decoction of 20 -30 Neem leaves and 10 gm rhizome of Haldi boiled in about 2 glass of water then cool it and use this water to wash the affected area.
